NOTES: This was my 1st Phish show. It was general admission and I knew that Phish allowed taping so I brought my borrowed Fostex cassette recorder and a pair of Shure SM57’s. I knew to go the center balcony rail and I saw the other only taper there too. Well, I did record the 1st set but noticed I only was getting my LED meter on one channel, so I didn’t even tape the 2nd set because I knew I could probably get a copy from the other taper. Well, I did but I can’t remember if I got from him or someone else in a trade a few years later; this is NEW transfer from my DAT clone. There are a 2 dropouts in the 1st set , one in the 2nd song and one right at the end of the 1st set; it’s on the master DAT, they were running behind a Sony D5 and somehow lost input? They are not DAT glitches per se. Anyway, I only knew of Phish from my fellow dead head tapers and I had a few tapes of them but I was not familiar with their music . It was interesting to see all the Phish heads which were very similar to dead heads most from the east coast. I remember Jon Fishman’s drums were off set to the side and Trey was still center at the time, I thought the sound from the PA was good too. Phish will never play a venue this small again probably so it’s rather nostalgic when I went to see them at “deer creek” in 2022; I felt like the old dead heads when I was a young dead head! This was vintage Phish no doubt, Bike with Fishman’s vacuum cleaner solo, big ball jam , is where Trey and Mike bounced on those little trampolines that were marketed for “aerobic fitness” back in the day. Phish is a very unique band, god forbid, it’s like Led Zeppelin, no member could be replaced in the group … EVER! They carved their own path to success with incredible musicianship, a super loyal fan base and a lot of hard work…
