NOTES: This was my 1st ABB show; I had seen Greg Allman Band a few years before at the KY State fair (triple bill, Greg Allman, Fabulous T-Birds, SRV! for fair admission!) I’m not sure about the first few tunes as we were late due to it took forever to gain admission. When the ABB come to Louisville, the Louisville Outlaws and Iron Horseman Biker gangs attend in earnest! My taping buddy put our rig in a back pack full of crap from college. The security dude , who looks like HE’s straight out prison, says to us as looks into the back pack “what hell is this shit” holding up the tape recorder…My buddy replies, “ uh, I use that to tape lectures at school” Security dude says.. “yeah right, I don’t give a shit , we’re looking for guns and knives” and off we went … Louisville Gardens was a great venue , the old armory , seated about 5000 , the old Ky Colonels in the ABA, used to play there , I saw lots of shows there ! We sat on the upper right hand side to grab some PA stacks … Well, I’ve never seen a southern rock band throw down like this before so myself and our buddies were awe struck. Also, the crowd was nuts as it was a Halloween show advertised for cheap , ticket were like 12 bucks at the door. the band is hot too, this is before the Seven Turns LP came out which was the 1st one on the new record label and new re-formed band with Warren Haynes, Allan Woody and Johnny Neal on Piano/Harp; they didn’t have the Quines , the future percussion player until after Neal left the band the next year in 1991. There was no opening band , just ABB for nearly 3 hours , this is the longest ABB show I’ve seen. After the show, there was still a line of bikers buying booze and beer to go … that’s right folks, also on the tape you will hear some people stomping in there seats …something that happens when Louisville crowds get really drunk …back then , they didn’t meter the pours … ABB and Greg always like Louisville, they played the Derby Eve Jams there in the spring many times through the 70s… the ABB is one of the greatest bands of all time … this show is uncirculated and no other known recordings exist …
