It was Mike Davis. "Man, it was so hot in the place, we didn't stay for Dylan/Petty". He then read to me the Dead's setlist, as I carefully wrote it down, since I would be sharing the news with several other people. I then had to ask, "why no Dylan?" "Well, it was so hot, and when we arrived for doors at Noon for the 2 PM show, we had no idea the Dead would play first then Dylan/Petty last since they did it the other way around at Rubber Bowl". "I tell you at least 15-20 thousand people were streaming out of there as Dylan started!" Startled at this news, particularly as I thought the Dylan/Petty sets were pretty solid in Akron. I then asked, "so is this why you are calling me so early?", which of course it was. Mike then relayed a few points about the Dead show and the recording attempts. I am unsure as to why I have no Beyer M88 recording of this show, only this AKG c422 exists in my collection. The first set was extremely short, only six songs, which tracks with most of the first sets on this tour, however at least 10 minutes less than the previous show- the Rubber Bowl- first set. Maybe the most interesting part of set 1 is the intro with Bobby and Phil talking to the audience via some wicked Healy sound effects talking about technical difficulties. Second set had six songs pre-drums, another unusual happening. You can hear the band mentioning they would be on television at end of set 1. So maybe the six songs was due to that. "Cold Rain and Snow" opener then a "Fire on the Mountain" rarity being played without it's lead in tune Scarlet Begonias". Garcia really slos this one up. There are two lengthy solos in the 8 minute plus rendition. THey work their way through a fine "Samson and Delilah" then stop to get some gear straight again while Bob talks to the TV audience to start "Wheel". A working man's "Miracle" then drops into an oddly timed, set slot wise, but a very sweet version of "Uncle John's Band" ending into a lengthy drums. After 37 minutes, roughly six minutes per song, the band walked off with the afternoon sun blazing. A short space gave way to "Gimme Gimme Some Lovin" with Brent and Phil sharing the vocals. A quick 'GDTRFB' and even faster "Turn on your Lovelight" ended the 22 minute post drums. length expanded size cdr WAVE problems fmt ratio filename 1:39.680 28707884 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7142 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks1t01.flac 5:40.960 98196524 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7514 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks1t02.flac 6:42.747 115991084 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7589 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks1t03.flac 6:42.853 116021804 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7646 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks1t04.flac 8:58.653 155132204 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7504 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks1t05.flac 4:21.627 75348524 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7537 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks1t06.flac 5:29.301 94838786 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7627 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks1t07.flac 0:53.333 15360044 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7133 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks2t01.flac 6:04.693 105031724 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7468 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks2t02.flac 8:59.427 155354924 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7478 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks2t03.flac 5:29.760 94970924 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7573 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks2t04.flac 4:48.080 82967084 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7512 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks2t05.flac 3:29.867 60441644 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7637 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks2t06.flac 7:20.387 126831404 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7463 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks2t07.flac 7:20.107 126750764 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7114 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks2t08.flac 6:13.893 107681324 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7169 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks2t09.flac 5:09.320 89084204 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7505 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks2t10.flac 4:57.880 85789484 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7546 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks2t11.flac 4:21.200 75225644 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7488 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks2t12.flac 5:07.750 88632080 B cxx -- ---xx flac 0.7567 gd1986-07-04akgc422-davis-holbrooks2t13.flac 109:51.518 1898358058 B 0.7478 (20 files)
