Tom went down to these shows with his roomate John Borg as John was from New Jersey and Meadowlands Arena was his hometown arena. They were able to get tickets and gear into both shows, so we have these Beyer M201 recordings. Aside from getting a call from a payphone the next morning telling us Stephen Stills played, we didn't know anything abut the music until Tom brought the tapes home. This was loooong before the internet or cel phones. I am not sure how long it took for us to even hear the tapes as he went to the Orono ME show on 4-19 before I met up with him again to drive to New Haven on 4-22/23.
For this show, Bob starts off Minglewood with a "T for those Jersey girls" setting up the audience for a pretty high energy show. The Birdsong early in the set provides another lift then the Looks Like Rain just put the killer mood out there; the audience is hooked by the end and dancing hard for the unexpected Touch closer. Phil is LOUD at the beginning of Black Queen. Johnny B Goode in four part harmony, Stills adds sweet tones after Bob tells the audience, "We're gonna play one everyone knows"!
