Master (from Sony DTC700) used in below transfer

Conversion: R500 > Canare Coax > Sek'd Prodif Plus > Soundforge 5.0 (fade in/out/edits/48>44.1 at highest setting[4of4] with anti-alias filter) > CD Wave > SHNv3 via Monkey's/md5sum.exe

REMASTER INFO

The remastering was done in iZotope Ozone 6.  The most important operation involved the use of Ozone's EQ-matching feature.  With LivePhish Vol 7 (8/14/93) as a reference, I EQ'ed this show to match.  The most dramatic change was a significant boost in the high end, concentrated around 9k.

I also applied Ozone's Dynamics processing on the low end, around Mike's bass, in an attempt to rein in some of the boominess.  Lastly, I applied some gentle maximizing, which resulted in very little compression; it mostly just increased the overall volume.  (The DR of shnid=8548 is 12; the DR of this remaster is 11.)

All tracks were combined for the remastering operations.  I retracked them in WaveLab and fixed SBE's using TLH.

Note: A strange, persistent hum, very high, around 18k, kicks in during Colonel Forbin's and is present for the rest of Set 1.  I decided to cut it out.


CLEAN-UP INFO

Clean-up was done in iZotope RX 4.

In addition to its muddy EQ, shnid=8548 suffers from a large number of imperfections, mostly in the form of clicks and crackling.  Contrary to what is said in the comments for shnid=8548, these noises are *not* solely or even mostly attributable to a "distortion in one of the drum channels."  Though much of the noise does accompany tom fills, any loud passage by any instrument is capable of setting it off.  The piano is just as bad as the toms.  Moreover, at least some of the noises are clearly digital artifacts.

I performed thousands of manual operations to try to clean up the source as much as possible.  The result is far from perfect, but for any annoying click or crackle that might remain, rest assured that hundreds or even thousands of others have been removed.
