Legion of Mary Capitol City Theater; Madison, WI 4/20/75 Cassette->Nakamichi BX-1 modified for flat transfer -> Tascam DR-07 (24 bit, 96kHz) Equalization and editing, converted to 16 bit, 44.1kHz via DC8 Forensics. Cassette Order: Let it Rock Feel Like Dynamite Someday Baby Roadrunner [ (Fades Out) Every Word You Say Mystery Train Harder They Come (opening notes clipped) Notes: I got this in a trade about 1976 or 1977. It appears to be the same taper as the one from shnid 124466. I had transferred this a few years ago and it appears to be in limited circulation. In the interim, I modified the Nakamichi for flat transfer and thought I might as well retransfer this show and see what could be done. The tape I had received in the trade had been used earlier; there are occasional spots between songs where sections of the "Vintage Dead" lp show up for a few seconds. There were two live Grateful Dead audience songs as filler on the end. I haven't identified these. These are all the songs that were on the tape. It does not match the soundboard versions (shnids 10979 and 31502) in several ways: In addition to the smaller number of songs, they are in a different order than what appears on the soundboard transfers. Also, for "Feel Like Dynamite," someone counts the song down on this transfer, whereas neither of the soundboard tapes have the countdown on them. The songs still sound like the same performance, though I haven't compared in great detail. So it may have been that the soundboard reel wasn't running for the first few seconds, although there is audience noise, etc. in those seconds on both soundboard versions that circulate, suggesting that the soundboard version may be edited in some way. Because there was an earlier transfer in circulation, I took some liberties with this version. I first corrected the speed, then I used the right channel only in a multifilter, reversed the NAB curve (to reverse the effects of multiple generations), then applied the correct curve for the tape, and added two virtual valve amplifiers (one for bass, one for harmonic enhancement), then a subharmonic generator set at 75 Hz. I think it sounds more listenable than the other version. There are still problems and some noise and hiss. Any comments: droncit@yahoo.com
