Bob Weir Interview 14:22 Total Time : [70:34] Recorded by Jon Dixon Sonic Studios DS6 mics->Sony D7 DAT Standing a few feet in front of Soundboard Mics mounted on taper's spectacle frames in true stealth mode Smiler says: The DAT>CD>CD>CD discs that I received had an overlap between discs #2 & #3. After extracting with EAC (twice, comparing the extracted wave files from each extraction), I used Cool Edit Pro to rejoin, losing the fade-out / overlap / fade-in. I also retracked the entire show. And I reduced the silent sections at the end of each set. No other editing was performed. (NB The sample values were not identical in the overlap area. Possibly because an earlier CD>CD copy was resampled, rather than a digital copy). If rejoining to longer media (ie DVD) the last track of disc #2, and the first track of disc #3 should be omitted, as these are fades added to make the individual discs smoother. I verified .wav file lengths with shntool after all the retracking, and all is good :-) The Bob Weir interview was converted from an mp3 downloaded from ebong.org The volume level of the interview was much much louder than the rest of the disc; I had to reduce the sample values to 25% to make the volume comparable. I converted to 32-bit and used CEP to restore clipped audio before the volume reduction, as the conversion to mp3 and back to wav had a whole lot of clipping (still has plenty, but much easier on the ears than at the original high volume). 22nd July 2002 alimac@netcomuk.co.uk
