This is the show where the RCA reps were in attendance for the first time, checking out their soon-to-be investment. Update by Dave Mallick 2.13.2011: --------------------------------- The first 35 minutes of this DAT will simply not play without a huge amount of diginoise every few seconds. There's a wobble in the tape that will play a fraction of a second clearly, then fade out into diginoise and back in again; I have the transferred file in my archive but it's not worth circulating. Fortunately, set 1 circulates from a purported SBD>DAT source. That source has a comment on it from Jon Weber stating that the show was one set and that John Popper played a solo set before. However, Dave starts to say "We'll take a short..." at the very end of Tripping Billies before the tape is stopped. When it starts again, he says "Don't fret, Mr. Popper will be here, so don't go home." John's later solo set circulates, during which he comments "it's 2 in the morning" and later says "Did you like Dave Matthews?", so it is much more likely that John played the late-night set after DMB's two-set show, especially given that Blues Traveler had a show of their own in New Jersey that night. There's a jump-cut at 4:31 in the crowd noise after Ants; it's at the 1h52m mark of music. Halloween cuts in, and then cuts out at 123 minutes. My guess is Bob was using a 60-meter DAT and was trying to pause between songs to avoid running out of tape, but 2 hours and 3 minutes is about what you get from a 60-meter tape, and I have no reason to believe the last two songs aren't from this show. Update by Tom Gambichler 3.6.2011: ---------------------------------- Received the entire ATR-55 aud source from Dave Mallick. He stated all of Set I was unlistenable and had constant diginoise and tape warble but luckily Set II starting with Warehouse onto the end of the DAT sounds great. For what it's worth, this ATR-55 source sounds very soundboard-like as Set I does although Dave Mallick lists the source as an audience source. Set I however does have the same crowd noise so perhaps it's not a soundboard source as originally thought. You be the judge. I simply combined both sources, the previous shn source for Set I and Set II only from the ATR-55 aud source. Using Sound Forge 8, I crossfaded the end of Set I to the beginning of Set II. * Just prior to the start of Set II, Dave is heard telling the crowd "don't fret, Mr.Popper will be here, so don't go home. Stay here and endure us for one more set". I then applied a +3.25db volume increase to Set II to equal the levels of Set I. Since Halloween is cut off at the end, I applied a fade out to that track. Resplit all tracks again in CD Wav Editor and assigned new flac files and fingerprints. This is now a COMPLETE source and show. ERRORS fixed using Sound Forge 8 Pencil tool: -------------------------------------------- Seek Up has a dropout at 7:01, static at 7:26(fixed) & 7:31(slight skip remains),dropout at 7:43, a cut is present at 7:55, then static again at 7:59(fixed) & at 8:01(fixed)then cuts and static at 8:02(not fixed) until 8:07 when everything is normal. Many thanks to Dave Mallick for providing me the complete source so I could combine it with the previous source for Set I to now produce a complete source of this show.
