A Doodee Music Master Recording

"If it's a DOODEE, you know it's the SHIT®"
     - Stripeydave 2008

This post is all about freely sharing some great music, spreading the word about these bands, increasing sales of their goods and attendance at their shows and having a little fun.

Tonight (8-13-10) The Black Crowes kick off their 20th Anniversary Tour. The band has promised this will be the last go 'round before an extended hiatus. Sadly, I believe 'em. In honor of their milestone jaunt and hopefully short-lived farewell here's my earliest Black Crowes master which happens to be a a tad over twenty years old itself.

This was an opening slot The Crowes held down for the band Junkyard at a small club. They were young. They were hungry. They were fueled by God knows what. They played hard. They played fast. They had a good time. They rocked. These were the days of Johnny Colt and Jeff Cease sharing a fifth of Jack during a set. This show was no exception. Also Chris sings two encore covers with Junkyard which are included here.

Who could have predicted within a year they would go from a dive club in 'lil ol' Hickory NC to headlining large clubs to opening for ZZ Top to getting booted from the tour for standing by their principles to finding a home in counterculture and delivering their deliciously creative good vibes for two decades? Who could have predicted that of the original lineup only Steve Gorman would be left standing with the Robinson's at the end? I've said it before about The Crowes - no matter who is in the band at the time, no matter what the musical "fashion" of the day, the Robinsons always deliver. At least they have for me over the last 20 years. WALSTIB!

This isn't the most pristine recording in the world. Had less than stellar equipment and a set of priorities aligned with activities that trumped getting the best recording in early 1990. At the same time, it's very listenable and offers a little snapshot of a band that was just about to bust wide open on the scene. Check the samples. Use the democratic process. Go see The Crowes on this tour. Enjoy.
