The Allman Brothers Band Fort Homer Hesterly Armory Tampa, FL ??/??/1970 Lineage: MR > ? >> BASF reel@ 3-3/4 IPS > Akai GX-636 > Apogee Mini Me(24/96) > Apogee Mini > Dac (monitoring/mastering) > Wavelab 5.0 (Dithered to 16/44) > CD > Capt. Skipper for further mastering. 1, Statesboro Blues (just the ending), into a Statesboro Jam 2. Trouble No More (Duane vocal) 3. Goin' Down Slow (Duane vocal) 4. Tuning 5. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed Without Greg Allman, who had a fever of 103. Reese Wynans likely played keyboards. Notes: This recording surfaced in July 2009, and was eventually handed to Capt. Skipper for some cleanup. Here is an exerpt from the original comments by the person who brought this recording to light, Bruce (tonewoods), from September 16, 2009, when the remastered recording began to circulate: I'm calling it "Tampa '70", if for no other reason than that's what was written on the tape box... But the truth is, we don't have confirmation as to the date and venue. Hopefully a listen will jog someone's memory, and we'll get a positive ID on when and where this remarkable concert took place... Kudos to Matt Smith for the unearthing of this gem. It's great that Duane-era ABB recordings are still coming out of the woodwork... Thanks to Capt. Skipper for remastering. He really spent some time whipping this thing into shape... OK, what we have here is an ABB gig with Gregg conspicuously absent. Consequently, Duane (and oddly, not Berry) takes over the vocal duties. I would put this recording of his vocal/guitar interplay during "Trouble No More" on my top-5 list of cool Duane moments--it's just a real fun listen... What a trooper that guy was... In my opinion, this is a stereo audience recording, with the mics close enough to the stage to hear the between-song stage banter... Also close enough to the stage to miss the vocals coming from the PA stacks... We have a mystery keyboard player sitting in on Hammond and electric piano. At the end of this recording, Duane says "we'll be right back in 5 minutes".... Let's hope set two shows up somewhere down the line, and that it doesn't take another 40 years!...
