Noteworthy Dancin\' in the Streets (A Collection)

This is a collection of noteworthy versions of Dancin\' In The Street
performed by the Grateful Dead. Dancin\' In The Street was written by
Mickey Stevenson, Marvin Gaye, and Ivy Jo Hunter. It was originally
recorded by Martha and the Vandellas. It sounds like a party song, but
it took on a different meaning when black demonstrators started
talking about it as a civil rights anthem in the late 60s. It has been
covered by Jagger and Bowie, Van Halen, Dusty Springfield, The Mamas
and the Papas, The Who, The Kinks, Tim Curry, The Carpenters, and of
course by the Grateful Dead.

The collection is closely based on a list put together by Eric Wybenga
and published in his book _Dead To The Core: An Almanac of the
Grateful Dead_. If Eric was trying to anticipate Dick\'s taste in his
list, he succeeded: four of the thirteen versions he selected are
available on Dick\'s Picks (2/14/70, 5/2/70, 5/19/77, 5/22/77). It
turns out that we don\'t have audience recordings of any of these
shows, so, I replaced them with excellent if less well-known versions
`from early 1970 and early 1977.

The track names are self-explanatory: they list the date of the
performance, the SHNID of the source, and shortened names of the songs
included in the track. Most of the Dancin\'s stand alone, but when the
song was an integral part of a larger jam, I included the jam. I made
minor edits and fades at the beginning and end of some of the tracks,
mostly to remove dead air. I used Wavelab V6 to edit tracks, shntool
v3.0.2 to fix the wav headers, and flac version 1.2.1 to compress the
files.
