Noteworthy China Cats and Riders

This is a collection of noteworthy versions of China Cat Sunflower and
I Know You Rider played by the Grateful Dead. It is a revision of a
collection originally circulated on eTree in June, 2008.

The original collection was closely based on a list put together by
Eric Wybenga and published in his book _Dead To The Core: An Almanac
of the Grateful Dead_. This revised collection includes sources from
Eric's list that were omitted from the original collection because I
did not believe I should seed them at eTree. It also includes several
other versions of China Cat and/or Rider that were recommended in the
comments on the original collection, as well as versions that I
thought should be added. Remember, "noteworthy" does not mean
"best". In particular, I've included some versions just to illustrate
how the song sounds over the band's lifetime. I welcome your ideas
about what should be included or dropped from the collection. There
could easily be a version 3.

There are some China Cats without Riders, and some Riders without
China Cats. But they're rare. Mostly, there are China Cat > Riders,
appearing as an old couple. So in this collection you don't see a lot
o flonger jams, just China Cat > Rider, or China Cat > something, or
something > Rider. So it goes.

The track names are self-explanatory: they list the date of the
performance, the SHNID of the source, and shortened names of the songs
included in the track. The music in these tracks is exactly the same
as the music from the source indicated by the SHNID. When necessary, I
joined the songs into jams using "shntool join", I snipped white space
from the end of the tracks and sometimes added fades using WaveLab
6.0, and then I compressed the files using "flac --best". I used
shntool version 3.0.9 and flac version 1.2.1.

If you have the first version of this collection, you should be able
to leech over it and only grab the changes.
