Noteworthy Morning Dews (A Collection)

This is a collection of noteworthy versions of Morning Dew performed
by the Grateful Dead. Morning Dew is a \"post-apocalyptic folk-song\"
written by the Canadian singer Bonnie Dobson in 1962. Bonnie says the
song was inspired by the film \"On The Beach\", a movie that has a love
story and a bit of an adventure, but where everyone is about to die
because of Nuclear Holocaust. Kind of like these days, if you think
the economy is going down permanently, but if you are still trying to
make do in the meantime. A guy named Fred Neil re-arranged the song.
A guy named Tim Rose heard that version and recorded a cover of Neil\'s
cover. Because the law sucks, Tim Rose is able to claim copyright to
the song, too, and so he got a bit of the royalties every time the
Grateful Dead played it. If you meet Tim, don\'t buy him a beer.

The collection is closely based on a list put together by Eric Wybenga
and published in his book _Dead To The Core: An Almanac of the
Grateful Dead_. Back before he knew better, Eric picked a number of
versions that were since released commercialy. And then because Eric
loved late-era versions of Morning Dew, some of the versions he picked
are not available in SBD. I covered for this by finding nearby and (to
my mind) nearly equally interesting versions, or by sharing AUD
versions. My only regret is, there is no non-commercial Dark Star >
Dew from late \'74. Sigh. Other than that, I believe the collection
reflects and honors Eric\'s taste.

The track names are self-explanatory: they list the date of the
performance, the SHNID of the source, and shortened names of the songs
included in the track. Some Dew\'s are standalone, but when a Dew was
part of a jam, in this case I often chose to share it in its
context. Just because. I decoded the wav\'s with flac or shntool as
appropriate to the source, joined the wav\'s with shntool, edited them
(in the edges and fades way) with Wavelab, fixed the bad headers with
shntool, and then compressed things with flac. I used flac v1.2.1,
shorten v3.6.0, shntool v3.0.2, ane Wavelab V6.
