Martina McBride appears on today's episode of Mountain Stage, recorded live in Bristol, Tenn. Known for her soaring voice, McBride has built a career by blending traditional country music with pop sensibilities. For a full decade and then some — 1999 to 2010 — McBride was the most played female vocalist on country radio, and since her 1992 debut, she's earned nearly every honor and accolade country music has to offer.
Her latest album, Everlasting, produced by studio legend Don Was, finds McBride exploring her longstanding love of R&B — with her trademark country twist. She's enlisted an 11-piece band, complete with a four-piece horn section, to help re-create her sound live on the road. This set includes one of McBride's first live performances of Little Walter's "My Babe," along with a soul-flavored reworking of McBride's signature song, the Gretchen Peters-written hit "Independence Day."
