Carole King and James Taylor reuniting isn’t quite a monumental reunion -- they never were an official performing entity, so they never had a falling out, appearing on-stage and on record from time to time since their ‘70s heyday -- but it is a notable one, particularly when they choose to perform at the Troubadour, the L.A. venue so crucial at the start of their stardom, backed by such fellow veterans of the SoCal singer/songwriter scene as guitarist Danny Kortchmar, bassist Leland Sklar, and drummer Russell Kunkel, musicians who supported them the last time they co-headlined the club back in 1971. All this made their series of shared shows in November 2007 an event, albeit a low-key one. King and Taylor embrace their classics -- it seems that there’s not a hit missed between the two of them -- and there’s genuine warmth to the whole show that’s quite appealing. Perhaps there are no surprises here, but any shock would have run counter to the whole spirit of the evening: this is about basking in both nostalgia and friendship, and if you’re on the same wave as the musicians, Live at the Troubadour is enjoyable.

Carole King, James Taylor and the Original Band Celebrate the "Troubadour's" 50th Anniversary
NOVEMBER 30, 2007
with a Special Three-Night Engangement for Charity

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Troubadour was honored to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a return three-night engagement, November 28, 29 and 30, 2007, with two shows per night at 7 and 10pm from two of its most beloved singer/songwriters, Carole King and James Taylor. The special performances featured songs from their 1969 debut Troubadour shows that helped propel them both to the world stage. This historic show marked Carole's debut as a solo artist. She is arguably the most successful and most revered female songwriter in pop music history.

In the last 50 years, The Troubadour has been a Los Angeles musical institution to countless artists and music fans alike. It helped launch the careers of the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne and Elton John, just to name a few. "In these walls there is a deep musical history that spans many generations. To have Carole and James back to help celebrate the last 50 years and to bring in the next 50...is quite an honor," says Brian Smith, the Troubadour's booker.

"When James asked me if I wanted to join him for the 50th Anniversary of the Troubadour I thought, what a perfect opportunity to celebrate our longtime friendship and shared musical history," notes King.

Carole and James reunited with guitarist Danny "Kootch" Kortchmar, drummer Russ Kunkel and bassist Lee Sklar, famous in their own right as The Section. There were two performances each night with ticket proceeds benefiting charities including Natural Resources Defense Council, MusiCares, Alliance for the Wild Rockies and the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank, a member of America's Second Harvest-The Nation's Food Bank Network.
