1. "Entertainment Tonight" (Part 1) 1985-05-XX
2. "Entertainment Tonight" (Part 2) 1985-05-XX
3. "Prime Time People" 1985-05-04
4. "Pacific Currents" 1985-05-11
These shows were recorded by me on a betamax machine.
Commercials were edited out using the pause button.
After 22 years, the tape has degraded to the point where
I let it roll from the master to my DVD burner without
pausing to create seperate files. The third program -
"Pacific Currents" was particularly problematic. Dropouts,
tracking issues were overcome by re-burning the footage over
and over until a useable version was achieved. I spent hours
trying to get it right. This DVD is a historical document.
The sound is muddy, as my betamax was on it's last legs at the
time, especially with regard to the audio head.
In early May 1985, The Grateful Dead approached their 20th
Anniversary. The media was all over them, both locally in
the Bay Area, and on national television programs "Entertainment
Tonight" (a two-part feature) and West 57th on CBS. Many of the
standard over-used clips are used here, but the interviews are
very interesting, as is the footage from New Years 12-31-84,
Nassau Coliseum in March '85, and Frost Ampitheatre from a week
or two prior to the broadcast. There is even a short, but excellent
clip of Bobby singing "Throwing Stones" from the Julia Morgan Theater
in Berkeley on 5-5-85. The one huge error I made when recording was
cutting Jerry's closing comment at the end of ET - "Stick around
for another twenty years!"
