Comment
Tut Taylor – Dobro, mandolin
Norman Blake – guitar, vocals
Butch Robins – banjo
Sam Bush – mandolin
Nancy Blake – cello (on “Oconee”)
Mitch’s Notes: Tut Reel #277 features two opening sets by Tut Taylor, accompanied by an all-star group of friends, recorded at Nashville’s famed Exit/In on October 6, 1973. There are some rough cuts on the tape; it sounds like set one ends with “Orphan Annie”. I don’t believe that the late set is complete, and this part of the tape is a bit confusing. Just before “Oconee”, a recording engineer’s voice is heard that says, “OK, we’re rolling”; while I initially thought that this was a studio recording, clapping is heard at the end of the tune, and the set continues. Confusion aside, this is a wonderful recording with some nice rarities!! See Tut Reels #276, #280, #281, #282, #283, #284, #285, and #286 for other Tut & Friends recordings made at the Exit/In during a run of shows from 10/2 – 10/6/73.
