John Lennon 1972-06-??
WHRW-FM Radio, Radio, Broadcast

Set 1
Bob Yass, who conducted the interview, was a DJ and a board member at WHRW, which at the time was a little 10-watt mono college FM station (it's now 1,455 watts, stereo). Apparently, he had connections at Apple Records in New York, and was able to arrange this exclusive telephone interview. Also, Mudshark Fred is the late Fred Koslov.

This was the ground-line telephone era. The telephone interface at WHRW, normally used for news actualities and call-in shows, was a jury-rigged affair, primitive even for the time. The campus phone system injected a lot of noises into the signal, including constant dial-tone hum. Also, you'll notice a high-pitched “beep” every 13 seconds or so during the actual interview. That is because back then, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) law required any radio station broadcasting a telephone call to inject those beeps into the signal in order to let the caller and the listeners know that the call was being broadcast.
