Jonny Lang 2017-09-18
Q104.3 Studios, New York, NY

Set 1
The guitar has taken Jonny Lang on quite a ride in his life.

Lang has gone from a skinny teenage guitar phenom to a veteran touring bluesman. Early in his career, Lang admits to Q104.3 New York's "Out of the Box" with Jonathan Clarke that he was mostly imitating his heroes—he didn't really have the blues until he was an adult.

But with time comes wisdom, introspection and, of course, the blues. Lang's new album, Signs (available now), is as authentic as they come. He says the sound of the new record is a nod to the genre's earliest recordings.

"I'd been listening to older music, like, early 1900's stuff like Howlin' Wolf and, you know, Robert Johnson," Lang says. "Like I just got kind of re-inspired by how raw and just—whatever they have on those records, whatever that magic thing is. I just wanted to tip the hat to those records and try to emulate some of that older stuff."
