The King Biscuit Flower Hour's Dave Edmunds title chronicles two concerts recorded seven years apart. Though Dave Thompson's liner notes are more confusing than informative, the first eight tracks come from a 1983 show at New York's Roseland. Here, Edmunds, while promoting his Information album, performs many of the neo-rock & roll songs penned for him by the likes of Bruce Springsteen ("From Small Things [Big Things One Day Come]"), Elvis Costello ("Girls Talk"), Nick Lowe ("I Knew the Bride [When She Used to Rock 'n' Roll],") and Graham Parker ("Crawling From the Wreckage"), as well as then-current mentor Jeff Lynne (the Top 40 hit "Slipping Away"). Though the sound is dense, the playing is energetic, and Edmunds introduces Brian Setzer and Chris Spedding, who join him on Eddie Cochran's "C'mon Everybody." The last four songs, in considerably improved audio, are from a May 7, 1990, appearance by Edmunds' Rock 'n' Roll Revue at the Warfield in San Francisco. Three of them are from his then-new Closer to the Flame album. Though the sound is better, the songs are less memorable, and Thompson's notes, which describe the later show as including Edmunds' Top Five hit "I Hear You Knocking" and a version of "Crawling From the Wreckage" featuring Parker (neither of which are actually on this disc) make you wish more from this show had been included. Like the notes, the album in general appears carelessly assembled, with many of the song titles printed slightly incorrectly (e.g., it's "Fallin' Through a Hole," not "Falling") and one completely wrong (the final song is "Don't Talk to Me," not "Never Take," the correct title of which would have been "Never Take the Place of You," anyway).
