What started as a candle in the grunge rock winds of Seattle became a global rock force known as Candlebox.

From the tiny clubs and coffee houses of the Emerald City to the top of the Billboard rock charts, multi-platinum-selling albums and sold-out arena shows across the globe, Candlebox ignited to become the alternative rock voice for a generation. The influential, groundbreaking rockers bring their aggressive, pointed sound to Mystique Casino & Resort’s Cabaret stage on Thursday, June 16 for a pulsating 8 p.m. show.

The irony behind Candlebox’s still powerful breakthrough, mega-smash single “Far Behind,” is that as artists, the band is still front and center on the American progressive rock scene. Twenty-three years after crashing onto rock stage, Candlebox is rocking harder than ever with its innovative new album “Disappearing In Airports.” Call Candlebox rock with a purpose. Over the years, the band’s music has made a lasting emotional impact on its legions of fans.

“There are people that inspire me every single day, fans that are fans of music, whatever it is,” lead singer Kevin Martin told the National Rock Review. “That’s inspiration to keep going in any way, shape or form. For me, to know that a song I’ve written or something I’ve done in my life has affected somebody to help them to continue on in their path or their goals or whatever it is that they are trying to do with their lives .. (if) I can be a part of that, I’m stoked about it. That makes me happy. That means that I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing.”

One of the most introspective and poetically candid American rock bands, Candlebox roared to fame with their quadruple-platinum 1993 self-titled debut and became a dominant name in 1990s progressive rock with their acclaimed followups “Lucy” and “Happy Pills.” On the radio, “You,” “Cover Me,” “Simple Lessons” and “It’s Alright” became Top 10 rock hits and airplay staples.

The National Rock Review calls “Disappearing In Airports” proof “there’s still some gas in the tank. It’s just now in the body on a classic car that has a monster engine under the hood that you won’t know is there until it’s too late. Pick up the CD and hear the evolution of Candlebox’s sound for yourself.” Rock Revolt Magazine hailed the album as a “complete piece of work” filled with “tracks that are going to speak to you and make you disappear into this album.”

Martin calls band’s 2016 sound “pissed and urgent.” With Martin, Dave Krusen on drums, Adam Kury on bass guitar, Mike Leslie on lead guitars and Brian Quinn on rhythm guitars, Candlebox is delivering topical, take-no-prisoners artistry.

Candlebox is one band that hasn’t mellowed with time. For proof, take a listen to “God’s Gift” off “Disappearing In Airports,” which Martin says takes direct aim at self-obsession and narcism, and in particular, one Mr. Kanye West.

“Candlebox has never been about its members; it’s been about the music,” Martin told the Pocono (PA) Record of “Disappearing In Airport’s new, daring, somewhat-out-of-left-field sound. “It’s just a magical record. It’s not going to change the world, it’s just an album that’s full of energy and passion and great songs.”

When it comes to delivering passionate, purposeful rock, Candlebox has no equal.

It has been 20 years since Candlebox released their album Lucy, which went gold and spawned the radio hits “Understanding” and “Simple Lessons.” The band is commemorating the record on an upcoming tour that kicks off later this summer. They have also announced a couple lineup changes.
With that news comes word that guitarist Peter Klett and drummer Scott Mercado have decided to take a break from touring with Candlebox and focus on their band Lotus Crush and other projects. Mercado was an original member of the band, and Klett joined in 1991.
“I’m stoked that Pete and Scott are having such great success with Lotus Crush and their other projects,” says vocalist Kevin Martin. “I wish them nothing but the best.”
Klett adds, “It’s time; there is nothing greater than playing music you’ve created in front of fans who love it with their heart and soul. That is what we have done with Candlebox for 20 plus years. The wonderful people who have embraced us have done it with class. For that, Scott and I are extremely grateful.”
The band’s current lineup includes Martin, bassist Adam Kury, drummer Dave Krusen (ex-Pearl Jam), guitarist Mike Leslie and guitarist Brian Quinn. Candlebox’s latest album Love Stories & Other Musings was released in 2012. They are currently working material for a new album that’s scheduled to be released in early 2016.
