Comment
This is the eleventh volume in a series which looks back at Jackson Browne's commercial albums by incorporating on-stage stories and radio interviews concerning the albums and their songs with selected live performances of each song in the original order from the album. In addition to the initial trip through the album, this volume includes alternate performances of 3 of the songs.

Looking East was released February 13, 1996, on Elektra Records. It reached #1 on the Gavin A-3 Boomer Grid, which ranks artists by the amount of airplay they receive on Triple A (Album Adult Alternative) radio stations around the United States.

The album was also available for a time in an "Enhanced CD" format, which contains interview footage of Jackson and his band, including Jackson's comments on each song on the album, a tour of Jackson's studio, and a section which shows the full development of the title track from a sound check jam to finished album recording.

The Japanese edition of Looking East has a hidden bonus track: "World In Motion" (live in Los Angeles with the Hamilton High School Gospel Choir) which appears at the end of the CD.

On Looking East, Jackson shared writing credit for the first time with the members of his band on all but 2 songs--Baby, How Long and Alive in the World.

Although previous Jackson Browne albums have contained songs that Jackson has only performed once or twice, Looking East is the first Jackson Browne album to contain a song that Jackson has never performed in public--Information Wars. Thus, this song is not contained in this compilation.
