Most of this has rarely been heard in collectors' circles. Previously circulated 20+ years ago as an analog tape, this is a compilation of live material from various unknown concerts circa 1973-1978. Especially interesting are the appearance of two previously unknown songs, "Ain't No Way" (which appears in record company listings) and "You Done Me Wrong". "I Paid The Price" surfaces in a different live incarnation, previously known only from a version performed at the Rainbow Theatre in London and aired only on the Irish television broadcast of that famous concert in July 1973. This version has Van zeroing in at one point on the phrase "Marin County", thus the "subtitle".
Included at the end is a reported guest appearance with Johnny Winter from 1978 in New York City around the time of Van's appearance on "Saturday Night Live". This one is a complete mystery. Is that Van on harmonica or not? Does Winter say "play the harmonica Van"? Winter introduces it as "a Willie Brown song ... Mississippi Blues". It appears that the Willie Brown referred to is not the same as the famous friend of Robert Johnson, but a different William Brown who recorded "Mississippi Blues" in 1942.
