Nick Drake 1939-??-??
Fruit Tree- A Short Film, Unknown, Unknown
Set 1
It has always been intended for this film to be a short, loving documentary to show at Theatres and Arts Centres across the UK as a preface to concerts of Nick Drake’s music. There is, however, something more beautiful embedded in this film, something more than those of us who set about producing it would have ever thought possible to capture, and something difficult to put into words.
The central focus of this film is the village of Tanworth in Arden, Warwickshire, England. The resting place of Nick Drake. July 2006 saw the forth Tanworth Gathering organised by Denise Offringa from the Netherlands, Hayley Jane and Peter Rice. Songwriters, guitarists, Nick Drake fans from literally all around the world descend on the village for a weekend of concerts, workshops and to forge friendships within the fragile auspice of common ground.
Everyone in the world today who has discovered the music of Nick Drake and been touched by it seems to have a brush of unknowing similarity, a very calm power of wistful purpose, understanding and empathy. It is almost as if once having heard Nick Drake, life was never quite the same again. What was jagged became smooth – what was comfortable and complacent became disturbed, sleepless and watery.
It is our hope that this short film brings a unique experience. To engage for a few minutes in the fascinating movement of collective conscience that has brought about Nick Drake's unique following.
