For a guy who supposedly doesn’t like to work much, Hank Williams Jr. is keeping himself busy. He’ll bring the latest incarnation of his “Rowdy Friends” tour to the New Orleans Arena on Sept. 24. Tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster, priced at $35.60, $76 and $163.35.Williams was in the Superdome for the Saints-Vikings game in October 2008, but last performed in New Orleans in May 2007, when he drew 11,500 fans to the arena. That outing was dubbed the “Rowdy Frynds” tour, in honor of co-headliner Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Skynyrd isn’t on board for this tour, hence the more conventional spelling of “Friends.” Instead, the bill is fleshed out by Eric Church, Gretchen Wilson and Lee Brice. They’ll all precede Bocephus on stage.

Over the past three decades, Williams has stepped out from his father’s considerable shadow to cast a big one of his own. His omnipresent “Bocephus” firebird logo is the outlaw country equivalent of the Nike swoosh, an instantly recognizable brand that conjures good times, good friends and a decidedly Dixie point of view. He’s also synonymous with the NFL, thanks to his “are you ready for some football?” theme for Monday Night Football.

And if his upcoming show is anything like his last appearance, expect a freewheeling set in which Williams will dabble on multiple instruments, recreate his own and his father’s hits, and detour into classic rock standards and local favorites.
