JACKSON BROWNE
Revisting the Albums (featuring stories shared)
Vol. 1, Jackson Browne (1972)
This is a look back at Jackson Browne's eponymous first album (aka Saturate Before Using). The idea is to create a "storytellers" type compilation about the album itself and the songs on it. Of course, there are some songs Jackson has talked about over and over during performances and interviews, telling slightly different stories each time but generally following the same theme for each song. Then again, there are other songs which I don't believe Jackson has ever discussed publicly. "A Child in These Hills" and "Under the Falling Sky" are 2 songs from this album for which I could find no comments.
CDRs received in trade > EAC > HD > various editing (see below) > TLH > FLAC > You
All tracks were normalized to 98%, using EAC. Various tracks were shortened using CD Wave Editor. Audacity was used to modify the volume on certain tracks as well as to fade in and fade out.

Vol. 2, For Everyman (1973)
Lineage: CDRs received in trade > EAC > HD > various editing (see below) > TLH > FLAC > You
Various tracks were shortened using CD Wave Editor. Some were then combined using WAV Joiner Trial Edition. Audacity was used to modify the volume on certain tracks as well as to fade in and fade out. In addition, the speed was corrected on tracks 14 and 15, using Audacity.
This is the second in a series which looks back at Jackson Browne's commercial albums by incorporating on-stage stories and radio interviews concerning the albums and their songs along with selected live performances of each song on the album in the original order from the album. I know many people enjoyed Vol. 1, and I believe Volume 2 represents an improvement over that first effort. In addition to the initial trip through the album, this volume includes alternate stories about 4 of the songs, accompanied by alternate performances of those songs.
Jackson Browne performed an entire concert in 2004 in Topanga, CA, in which he looked back on each song on the For Everyman album and told stories about each one. I tried not to use any material from that performance, However, for 3 of the songs, that was the only recorded instance I could find of Jackson talking about those particular songs so I included a short amount of what Jackson said about each of them.
Since many of you probably don't have a copy of that particular show, I will upload it sometime after people have had the chance to download this one. The two will be quite different as the Topanga show was solo acoustic in its entirety. For this torrent I emphasized Jackson's performance of each song with a band if one was available and used no performances from the Topanga show. There are at least 2 recorded versions of the Topanga show. One has a few audio problems. The second, which is the one I intend to upload, was of much higher quality.
Most importantly: The intent of these volumes is to introduce you to Jackson Browne's albums or to renew your appreciation of them. All of Jackson's albums are still available, and hopefully if you don't have any of them or need new copies, this will encourage you to purchase them. They are available at Jackson's own web site (www.jacksonbrowne.com) and at Amazon.com.

In addition to the initial trip through the album, this volume includes alternate performances of 3 of the songs.
For many people Late for the Sky is their favorite Jackson Browne album. In order to keep the live performances as close as possible to the sound of the original album, I have primarily selected recordings from that era with many of the musicians who contributed to the original recording.

This is the fourth volume in a series which looks back at Jackson Browne's commercial albums by incorporating on-stage stories and radio interviews concerning the albums and their songs with selected live performances of each song in the original order from the album. In addition to the initial trip through the album, this volume includes alternate performances of 6 of the songs.
While several of the songs from The Pretender are staples for Jackson in concert, a few of the songs on this album have seldom been performed. "Daddy's Tune" was one that Jackson had never been recorded performing in public until he attempted to do so during his solo acoustic tour of 2004 following an audience request. That performance is included here. Three versions of Your Bright Baby Blues have been included--a 1994 performance, a solo acoustic performance, and a 1974 performance with a band featuring David Lindley. That performance was the first ever recorded public performance of the song and-- along with a performance of the song later that year with the Eagles on Don Kirschner's Rock Concert--predates the album release by more than 2 years. The song was not recorded being performed before an audience again until 1977. Unfortunately the opening line of the song is missing from the recording, but it is definitely worth listening to anyway.
Most importantly: The intent of these volumes is to introduce you to Jackson Browne's albums or to renew your appreciation of them. All of Jackson's albums are still available, and hopefully if you don't have all of them or need new copies, this will encourage you to purchase them. This is the fifth volume in a series which looks back at Jackson Browne's commercial albums by incorporating on-stage stories and radio interviews concerning the albums and their songs with selected live performances of each song in the original order from the album. In addition to the initial trip through the album, this volume includes alternate performances of 5 of the songs.
The album Running on Empty was the first of its kind--featuring all live performances of songs that had never been recorded--or heard by an audience--before the live recording was made. It’s an album painting a picture of life on the road for an up-and-coming band by a band that was actually on the road at the time. Some of the performances on this compilation were recorded before Running on Empty was commercially released and may have actually been considered for use by Jackson Browne at one time. A few others were recorded shortly after the album had been released.
The non-acoustic tracks were recorded from performances from 1977-1980 when the band was basically the group which was recorded on the Running on Empty album. At that time, the songs were played somewhat differently each time out. The tracks selected here are ones available that sound the closest to those on the commercial recording. The one exception is Nothing but Time, for which a good recording from that time period could not be found.
Most importantly: The intent of these volumes is to introduce you to Jackson Browne's albums or to renew your appreciation of them. All of Jackson's albums are still available, and hopefully if you don't have all of them or need new copies, this will encourage you to purchase them. This is the sixth volume in a series which looks back at Jackson Browne's commercial albums by incorporating on-stage stories and radio interviews concerning the albums and their songs with selected live performances of each song in the original order from the album. In addition to the initial trip through the album, this volume includes alternate performances of 3 of the songs.
Jackson Browne’s sixth album, Hold Out was released in June 1980 and went straight to #1. (It was certified platinum within 3 months of release and stayed on the charts for 38 weeks.) The first single, "Boulevard" reached #19 and the follow-up single "That Girl Could Sing" reached #22. The album contained only 7 songs, and although all of them were played on the tour supporting the album, after 1987, Jackson no longer performed “Disco Apocalypse, “ “Hold Out,†“Of Missing Persons,†or “Hold On Hold Out†while touring. “Boulevard†and “That Girl Could Sing†have been performed on several band tours since then, however, and “Call It a Loan†has been a staple on Jackson’s acoustic tours. Hold Out is an album of which Jackson has seldom spoken, only briefly sharing the origin of 4 of the songs with his audiences.
Except for the alternate version of “Boulevard†(2009), all of the musical tracks here are from performances from 1980 through 1987. The 1980 performances include David Lindley in the band, as does the acoustic duet of “Call It a Loan†from 1987. The other band tracks are from performances from after Lindley left to pursue his own musical career.

All of Jackson's albums are still available, and hopefully if you don't have all of them or need new copies, this will encourage you to purchase them. This is the seventh volume in a series which looks back at Jackson Browne's commercial albums by incorporating on-stage stories and radio interviews concerning the albums and their songs with selected live performances of each song in the original order from the album. In addition to the initial trip through the album, this volume includes alternate performances of 3 of the songs.
Lawyers in Love was Jackson Browne's fourth straight Top 10 album, peaking at #8 and staying on the charts for 33 weeks. The single "Lawyers in Love" went to #13, "Tender Is the Night" went to #25, and "For a Rocker" peaked at #45.
Jackson seldom spoke about the album and has offered insight on only 4 of the songs during concert appearances and radio interviews. "Knock on Any Door" was performed a few times on Jackson's 1982 European Tour--before the album was released--but never again, not even during Jackson's 1983 Lawyers in Love Tour for the album. "On the Day" and "Cut It Away" have not been performed since that 1983 Lawyers in Love Tour. Jackson continued to play "Downtown" from time to time during the 1986 Lives in the Balance Tour but has not performed it since. "Tender Is the Night" has remained somewhat of a staple, performed both acoustically and with the band on various tours, and "For a Rocker" has been used to close some band concerts in the 1990s and 2000s. Interestingly, Jackson has apparently performed "Lawyers in Love" only a single time--acoustically in Stockholm in 2003--since the 1980s.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: The intent of these volumes is to introduce you to Jackson Browne's albums or to renew your appreciation of them. All of Jackson's albums are still available, and hopefully if you don't have all of them or need new copies, this will encourage you to purchase them.

All of Jackson's albums are still available, and hopefully if you don't have all of them or need new copies, this will encourage you to purchase them.
They are available at Jackson's own web site (www.jacksonbrowne.com) and at Amazon.com.

Most importantly: The intent of these volumes is to introduce you to Jackson Browne's albums or to renew your appreciation of them. All of Jackson's albums are still available, and hopefully if you don't have all of them or need new copies, this will encourage you to purchase them.
