NOTES
A concert from the Rare Music Club festival "Way Out West", in Bristol.
Originally set up by Keith Tippett to promote contemporary classical, improvised and world music, all on the same bill, his aims were for audiences to be able "..to listen to a Bartok string quartet with a pint of Guinness or a glass of red wine, if they so wished…".
The evening started with Keith Tippett's Piano Quintet performing Linuckea. This was followed by the Early music ensemble, The Dufay Collective with O Nome de Virgen Santa: Cantiga 254 from the Cantigas de Santa Maria compiled at the court of Alfonso the learned of Castille and Leon [1252-1284]. Finally, to reflect the full range of the Rare Music Club's repertoire the improvisational trio of Paul Dunmall, Keith Tippett, and Julie Tippetts ends the evening.
