Hugh Laurie takes a personal journey into the heart and soul of blues and jazz music.

Hugh Laurie: Down by the River will see the actor travel to New Orleans to explore the roots of the sounds that inspired his lifelong passion for music. The film captures behind the scenes moments as he prepares to record his own versions of blues and jazz songs and perform with his band at one of the city's iconic venues.

Director John Paul Davidson, whose credits include Himalaya with Michael Palin and Stephen Fry in America, gives us an insight into the blues and jazz music originating from New Orleans and offers a glimpse into the life and passions of the much-loved actor and musician Hugh Laurie.

Featuring legends such as Allen Toussaint, Sir Tom Jones and Irma Thomas, as well as performances from Hugh and his band at Latrobes in the city’s French Quarter, the film includes interpretations of songs that have shaped generations of musicians and had a defining impact on American culture.
