Comment
Teatro Massimo
Tracks 1-4: Jon Faddis, trumpet; Charles McPherson, alto sax; Bobby Jones, tenor sax; John Foster, piano & vocal; Charles Mingus, bass & piano; Roy Brooks, drums & musical saw
Tracks 5-6: Jon Faddis, trumpet; Charles McPherson, alto sax; Bobby Jones, tenor sax; Charles Mingus, bass; Roy Brooks, drums; Kenny Drew, piano; Niels H. Orsted Pedersen(?), bass
Discoteca Esplanade
Ben Webster, tenor sax; Charles McPherson, alto sax; Bobby Jones, tenor sax; Charles Mingus(?), bass; Roy Brooks, drums; Kenny Drew, piano; Niels H. Orsted Pedersen, bass
To my ears Mingus plays in the first set (also the piano) but not in the second. In the second set at The Discoteca Esplanade the bassist to me is NHOP only - while I seem to hear Mingus' voice in the audience. Only Perdido, in the second set, features the full orchestra the other tracks are trios or quartets with a tenor (maybe Webster).
