Comment
Bob Crane is best known for his "Hogan's Heroes" show, and later for his violent murder and subsequent revealing of his porn obsession. But during this period, he was a very successful DJ in Los Angeles.
From Wikipedia:
(in 1956) "The CBS radio network plucked Crane out to help stop his huge popularity from affecting their own station's ratings. Crane moved his family to California to host the morning show at KNX radio in Hollywood. He filled the broadcast with sly wit, drumming, and guests such as Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, and Bob Hope. It quickly became the number-one rated morning show in the LA area, with Crane known as "The King of the Los Angeles Airwaves."
As these tapes reveal, Crane had a quick wit,and the show was pretty irreverent, even with sponsor's ads. Lots of great ad libs and jokes puncture nearly every segment.
Arthur Lyman, along with Martin Denny, was perhaps the best known practioner of what became known as "Exotica Music"; seminal albums such as Taboo and Bahai are essentials. To have an actual interview with him-that's gotta be pretty rare. He's certainly very laid back here, and has a great, if dry, sense of humor. Lyman died in 2002.
Paula Prentiss is an actress best known for the movies Where The Boys Are and The Horizontal Lieutenant , both discussed here.
Rod Serling doesn't need a whole lot of introduction here. This segment is terrific, with Rod just dripping with dry humor and quips, and lots of interesting insight into the business. He and Crane have a great time.
