Comment
In 1981 George Jones was honored by many of his friends with a TV Special celebrating his coming back from the depths of alcoholism. Hosted at The Country Club in Reseda, California, "With a Little Help from His Friends..." included Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette (his former wife), Waylon Jennings, Jessie Colter (Waylon's wife), Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello, and Tanya Tucker, and won awards from the Chicago Film Festival and the New York Film and Video Festival.
After the opening introduction by Johnny Cash, seventeen songs were performed, including six duets with George, and four with George singing alone. Bill Walker was the pianist/musical director, conducting a crack studio band and small orchestra.
