This was part of the 'Carling Live 24' series of gigs taking place over a 24-hour period from 7am - 7am in both Manchester and London; showtime for Elbow was approx 4pm.
Elbow had recently finished recording their new album in the space they were playing this gig, and announced the album title as 'The Stops' ("...as in 'pulling out the...'"). When eventually released, the album name had been changed to 'Leaders of the Free World' as they felt that 'The Stops' had an air of finality about which wasn't the intention.
'Buddha With Mace' also got a new name - 'Forget Myself' - and was released as the first single from Leaders.
The show was filmed/videoed but I've never seen any footage from it.
The night before, there was a media-only event where a version of the Companion DVD to the album was shown followed by a live performance.
