Comment
Chiba
is a city and port in Japan, on Tokyo Bay,
central Honshu - capital of Chiba prefecture.
Chiba has an 8th-century Buddhist temple.
Industries: textiles, paper.
Chiba (this means: "thousand leaves") is a modern city situated at the
northern bank of the Tokyo bay with a population of about 900.000.
The Chiba High School (founded April 1, 1900 - no joke!) is a pure
girl school, with a tradition of more than 100 years.
The principal, Mr. Shingo Takasaki, is very proud that about 1000 girls
are visiting his school at the moment - and most of them studying instruments
and choir to perfection in their leisure time.
Chiba Girls’ High-School orchestra is one of the best high-school orchestras
in Japan. Over the last years they won lots of prices at the "All Japan
Orchestra Contest" and had been voted "Japan's Best Orchestra" several times.
The Orchestra is visiting Nuremberg for a third time after 2003 and 2005,
this time with 104 students, aged from 15 to 17 years, together with their
persons in charge, and their teacher and musical conductor.
Ken Yamaoka, conductor
He studied piano under Vladimir Takenouchi, vocals under William Wu, and and
absolved his musical studies under Aldo Protti. He worked as lecturer in Japan,
and performed as opera singer. Then he focussed as musical reader in an japanese
high school that won essential prices for and with their pupils.
And since 2007 he's working as teacher and musical conductor at Chiba High School.
