Well I'm going to relay this in order of my, own, day on Monday. Came to work like any other day bored out of my skull. Checked a forum about 1:30PM when I read that someone posted Rilo Kiley were playing at Goodnite Gracies in Royal Oak, MI. This is a super tiny bar. Very small. Once I found this out I called my sister-in-law who was coming with my wife & I to the show & mentioned this to her. She was all about it. Drove over, met at our house & we left. My wife was working until 6PM so there was no way she could make it for the acoustic performance.
We arrived at about 4:20 & there were already about 10-20 people milling around in front of the martini bar. Having been to concerts early many-a-time, I walked by the back of the theatre &, guess what, the band was doing their soundcheck. I pressed record on my DAT & listened from the outside & heard:
Close Call
Dreamworld
Portions For Foxes (sans Jenny)
Sound quality was not great but was still interesting.
We went around to the venue & basically stood there until 6PM when they let us in. And there was Rilo Kiley, sitting there ready to play a few acoustic numbers. My position was literally 5' from where the band was. Of course I recorded this intimate session as well... I thought Moneymaker sounds excellent acoustic, all raw & powerful. This is what they played:
Close Call
Dreamworld
Moneymaker
Short set but hard to complain as it was free & was a very unique experience. Orenda Fink was also there, she was having mic issues but good lord is she an amazing singer. Jenny's voice was absolutely stunning, especially on Moneymaker once she hit her groove. Wow.
My wife managed to get the sound-engineer's copy of the setlist during the encore (it helps if you are an attractive woman).
