A magnificent documentary about the group that sold 30 million albums and boasts, in Debbie Harry, a front woman of effortless cool. In many ways, it is a classic story of rock 'n' roll, characterised by bitter conflicts, bullying managers, record companies trying to impose their will, moneymen behaving like vultures and musicians off their heads on drugs. Mike Chapman, the producer brought in to broaden the bands commercial appeal, says ruefully: "Even my horn section were junkies." The film has lengthy contributions from everyone involved and suggests that it was the friction within the band that gave their music its distinctive edge. This is the best sort of rock documentary: comprehensive, forthright and compelling - both for Blondie fans and everyone else.
