"NOTES
Tracks 1-3: This is a promo CD-R released by RCA Records in late 2002. These songs were recorded by Paul Kolderie and Sean Slade at the Outpost in Stoughton, MA and Q Division in Somerville, MA on August 8th-12th, 2001. The versions of Lost In The Air and Lift Off on this release are rough mixes of the songs that ended up on the 2-song CD/7" that was released on Hydra Head Records in January 2002. Seafrost is labeled as "(No Title) New Song" on the CD insert and has significantly different lyrics than the final version, as well as a guitar breakdown at the end that's very similar to the "ray gun outro" that was performed during the Antenna headlining tour in 2003. (Aside: on the bootleg that's floating around of Cave In's performance on a radio station in Amsterdam in May 2003, Steve sings the original lyrics during the second verse of Seafrost. If you were wondering where that verse came from, well, there you go.)

Tracks 4-7: This is another promo CD-R, but it's self-released. I'm unsure of the date it was distributed, but I've been told they sent this CD out when they were trying to find a promotional representative, so it's probably from before they signed to RCA. These songs were recorded by Brian McTernan at Salad Days in Beltsville, MD during the DC-area stops on the November/December 2001 tour with the Icarus Line. Looking through old tour dates and news posts on Cave In's site (one of which states that the songs were recorded in "three half-days' worth of time"), as well as the Cave In discography that says the songs were recorded in November and December, I'm guessing that the actual dates of the recordings were: 11/29/01, before their show in Baltimore; 11/30/01, before their show in DC; and 12/01/01, before they drove up to PA for their show in Philadelphia. Keep in mind that this is all just wild conjecture, but these songs definitely were recorded around this period of time.

About these four songs: Stained Silver and Bigger Riff (later known as Rubber And Glue) are the same versions that were released by HHR on a 3-song promo (the third song being a remastered version of Brain Candle) in May 2002. Anchorage is an early version of Anchor, with different lyrics and a guitar solo before the bridge. Lost In The Air is virtually identical in form and lyrics to the version of the song released on Antenna - the only really noticeable difference is the absence of the rhythm kicks near the end of the song that made the Antenna version so awesome.
