A review from the LA Weekly:
"Screaming Trees at Al's Bar"
Ozzy Osborne's line "People say I'm heavy, they don't know what I hide," couldn't be a more accurate description for Washington state's Screaming Trees. Make no mistake, these guys are heavy, but rather than join their fellow statesmen, who have mutated into one big Subpop sludge, the Trees stand alone among the pack of wah-wah revivalists. This night was their bag of trips, with more where that came from, and when guitarist Gary Lee Conner took his amp to 11 during the excellent, suddenly instrumentalized rendition of "Ivy", ...things became obese. massive volume, Wah wah in excess. A guitar. A belly. And manes to make Cousin It jealous . Colossus-rock from Screaming Trees, ready to uproot and assault the world! Oh yeah, and ax-mistress Sylvia Juncosa played too. (Cesar Padilla)"
