For those of you that do not know who George Benson is, he has done some amazing stuff. Most notably, back in 1969, he did a jazz take on the Beatle's 'Abbey Road' album which is one of my all-time favorite LPs. Great stuff. He also did a few really great improv albums in the early 70's which are legendary to many in the jazz community. However, now, he sucks live. Basically, a lounge-act for aging babay-boomers. The average
demographic of the people at this show was probably like 55 years old. And not the cool 55 year olds who would
go to a Rolling Stones show or something like that - just uncool. Even the intro: "ladies & genteleman - please give a warm introduction to 8 time grammy award winner, Mr. George Benson!" was entirely Las Vegas-esque.
Listening to this, you can't held but want to put on a rhinestone suit & dance with someone 3x your age. In fact, after offering to pay my buddy Ryan $30 to freak this old drunk lady, he did - it was the funniest thing ever, sh was old enough to be his mother. Anyway, after the show, I was speeding back to Charlevoix, got pulled over & almost got a breathalizer. Thankfully, the cop realized my buddy & I were not
trouble & let us go on with a warning. So, we are driving, all freaked out & about 30 miles later, I see these two
dogs in the middle of the road. It is late, about 12:30am, so I stop & try to get the dogs out of the road... oddly, they were connected to each other by a leash & were running around in tandem. I was quite afraid they were
going to get nailed by a car. Of course, as soon as we get the dogs out of the road, they run right into the middle right into the path of a car driven by drunk Keewanaw Indians on their way back from the casino. I was pissed
at the situation, wasn't really anyone's fault I suppose... maybe mine because I stopped to get the dogs out of the
way. I don't know. Anyway, one of the dogs, a black lab, was lying on the side of the road & wheezing - most
likely bleeding internally as well. Called the cops, they were of no help whatsoever, of course. So, we rushed this
dying dog in the back of my truck about 40 miles to Petoskey after calling an emergency veterinarian. That was
weird, we ended up assisting the Vet in the surgery of this dog to get it stabalized via holding open skin & stuff like that. Not even my dog nor my friends dog. Just a dog. Anyway, I think that it ended up dying a few days later but hopefully it wasn't totally in pain. I put up some fliers talking about a missing dog the day after this
happened but, wouldn't you know it, no one seemed to care. Sad. I don't think people should have pets if they
allow shit like this to happen.
