Comment
Sam Champion and Bohemian Sunrise opened.
First show of RANA/Sam Champion package-tour.
(Matt and Ryan had the flu.)
So, every so often, RANA plays before a small-to-medium-sized crowd consisting mostly of friends, and they relax and do all kinds of stuff that they don't
normally do. This was one such performance.
* - with Matt on tambourine
** - by request
*** - with extended intro and unusual jam; "That was some Type 2 jamming right there," Scott said after it was over
# - with the guy running the soundboard reciting a quote from Nietzsche during the intro, and a "Cortez the Killer" (Neil Young) tease
## - without Scott, who had broken a string on the previous song; Matt said they were gonna play "One Good Eye," then changed his mind
### - with extended guitarless intro, as Scott was still changing his string, and altered lyrics ("Irish Whiskey and Guinness are like my only friends")
& - preceded by brief riffing on Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times"
&& - with "Smile" and "Bloodshed" teases
&&& - dedicated by Scott to his father (who was in attendance), "the first person who taught me about rock and roll"
% - played by request despite Scott's comment that "we don't play it anymore"; the rap was "Just a Friend"; ended with brief jam that set up segue into "Carson Daly"
