Moving Van
(bootleg CD)
Tonight Only (TO 99/027)

Liner notes:
This one's from Bill to Hillary
And so begins a wonderful collection of Van Morrison tracks captured from Irish and British TV, where Van is almost as ubiquitous as gratuitous sex on American television.

These 12 tracks take you from Belfast down to Dublin, and the on to the UK for a three-song romp with the pixie of British pop music, Mr. Jools Holland, Esq.

He's A God, sayeth Jools.

Indeed.

Decide for yourself with this sampling of 11 recent TV appearances, plus a bonus from Eco Rock / Festival for a Green Future held in Scotland in July, 1988.

Produced in the EC by Barney Rock and Sonny Lester.

Review by Niall Connors:
Well, the folks at Tonight Only have done it again with this great CD. While all of these songs are available on other boots or through tape trading, the quality of the songs is exceptional.

The disc kicks off with Van's HITYL from 30-Nov-95 in Belfast, a day of tremendous, albeit yet unrealized, potential to heal the wounds of Ireland. Van's song -- dedicated to Bill and Hillary, who were there that day -- takes on metaphorical proportion for the island's inhabitants. [But remember: history in Ireland repeats itself first as tragedy, and then again as tragedy.]

The other major highlight of the disc is the three tracks with Jools Holland -- Back On Top, When The Leaves Come Falling Down, Gloria. I never thought I would have missed Brian Kennedy, but he adds a lot to the three tracks, and the Thank You For Lettin Me Be Myself segway during Gloria is stupendous.

As seems always the case with Tonight Only, the disc's packaging is smart, with a clear jewel case used to accentuate the sharp black-and-white art, including a nice touch of inside back-cover artwork that matches the disc label itself. Good stuff indeed.
