The missing link between Remote Control and Completion Backward Principle.
Back in 1980 the band recorded the backing tracks for this album at Tubesound in SF. Inner disputes over the lyrical content caused problems with Fee - who initially refused to participate on some of the more cynical material. In the end the album was finished and handed to A&M who refused to release the album and instead put out T.R.A.S.H as the final album of the Tubes A&M contract.
Suffer for Sound - aka The Black Album - was also performed live at the time and formed the basis for the 1981 tour overture. Don't Slow Down (whose lyrics were changed for the recorded version) was also performed live in 1981 and, later still, Dreams Come True was performed solo by Bill Spooner.
In many ways SFS, and the resultant A&M trouble, was the final straw for the Tubes who eventually gave them what they wanted in 1981 with the business suited analyst concept - music was now about finance and the CBP parody worked well - the Tubes 'sold out' in capital letters.
A good album with a few AAA cuts such as Steen's 'Dangerous', Spooner's rockers 'Don't ask me' and 'Colour me Wild' and the awesome title track.
