"new day rising"
rough mixes and practices
lineage - 2nd gen cassette->wav->sound
forge 4.5 [noise reduction, normalization,
splits]->flac
min:sec - 18:25
filesize - 123 mb
notes: received in a cassette trade
sometime during 1989-1991. the trader
claimed to have received his cassette
directly from grant hart. tracks 1-3 are
definitely outtakes/rough mixes from the "
new day rising" sessions. originally
labeled "rough mixes and outtakes," i'm
assuming tracks 4-6 are actually practice
sessions - vocals are present at times
during these tracks, but are barely
audible. all three definitely have the feel
of a loose practice recorded to boom box.
tracks:
1. i apologize-01
2. i apologize-02
3. girl who lives on heaven hill
4. if i told you-01
5. if i told you-02
6. books about ufos

lineage - sbd/fm->?generation cassette-
>wav->sound forge 4.5 [noise reduction,
normalization]->cd wave [splits]->flac
min:sec - 11:18
filesize - 82 mb
notes: received in a cassette trade
sometime during 1989-1991. a slightly
different version of this set is included
on the "makes no sense at all" vinyl boot,
but is of inferior quality. energetic, if
brief, fm set captures husker du in full
mid-career form.
tracks:
1. girl who lives on heaven hill
2. i apologize
3. pink turns to blue
4. ticket to ride

notes: received in a cassette trade
sometime during 1989-1991. i've nearly worn
out this cassette from repeated listening.

01_commercial.html#codeb].

min:sec - 34:58
filesize - 231 mb
notes: received in a cassette trade in
approximately 1991. an undiscovered gem
amongst my cassettes, i likely set this one
aside as i lost interest in trading for a
while around this time. a more reflective,
nuanced husker du begins to emerge from
this blistering set, as in the 1983-8-12
goofy's upper deck gig, anticipating their
wider underground renown 1984-1986.
tracks:
1. something i learned today
2. its not funny anymore
3. from the gut
4. wheels
5. everything falls apart
6. chartered trips
7. sunshine superman
8. drug party
9. what's going on

certainly a few cassette generations here,
but this set is indespensable as a powerful
document of an angry "zen arcade"-era
performance in front of a hometown crowd.
damn listenable, too.
tracks:
1. something i learned today
2. its not funny anymore
3. from the gut
4. wheels

notes - most of the "makes no sense at all"
vinyl boot. the deventer, holland set is
included on the vinyl, but my cassette
source [elsewhere in this torrent] is a
superior source. somewhat distant audience
recording, but a solid 8 out of 10
nonetheless. surprise, the tracks as listed
on the lp are totally wrong.
tracks:
