AMG REVIEW: The six tracks on Repent are taken from live recordings made during a 1996 New Zealand tour. This makes for an interesting break from the rather studio-bound noise experiments of the Dead C's previous releases ? in a "real" context, the band constructs massive instrumentals which build momentum from their noise, with all of the drone, Kraut rock, and wall-of-sound tones that this implies. The key to Repent's efficacy is the human presence behind it ? rather than interpreting studio manipulations, one actually hears the band creating its noisy tones, and this lends the work the same realism that, to a lesser extent, marks Tusk. ?
