Comment
During the question and answer session, Bruce also performed parts of "Back in Your Arms," "Across the Border," and "Into the Fire."
Song notes....."The Wall" is a song Bruce wrote with Joe Grushecky after visiting Washington, DC, and the Vietnam Memorial in December 1997. It is a different song than Grushecky's own "On the Wall," which appears on Grushecky's "Fingerprints" album. Bruce gave a line by line description of "Bus Stop," said "Freehold" was a different perspective on "Bus Stop" and "Growin' Up." "Freehold" was not updated since the 1999 version, as Bruce still sang, "A few weeks ago the town council..." "Stolen Car" was the version from "The River." "Souls of the Departed" sounded similar to "State Trooper," with a brooding guitar riff at the beginning of the song. After finishing "Brilliant Disguise," Bruce said that the character in that song was one he'd written about before in "Stolen Car," which was the version from "The River" (as opposed to the "Tracks" version). "The Promised Land" was done in the same arrangement as on "The Ghost of Tom Joad" tour, with Bruce using the guitar as more of a percussion instrument than a guitar. The audience asked the questions, and Bruce seemed very confident and comfortable throughout the question and answer session, handling some unusual questions with humor. The only topic off-limits during the question and answer period was Bruce's hair. Bruce was asked what his favorite song was, and he said it was "Darkness on the Edge of Town," as it was so "central."
