From the compiler:
THE OTHER ANTHOLOGY OF AMERICAN FOLK MUSIC
4 Discs, 101 Tracks, by 75 artists, culled from approx 40 to 50 hours
of source material. No tracks over lap the original 84 song
anthology, some songs do , but they are interpreted here by diffrent
artists. I didn't take the recently released volume 4 on REVNANT
Records into consideration , there are 2 or 3 songs that overlap that
collection. All but 2 songs here were recorded between 1926 - 1936 .
The original anthology spanned 1927-1932. I have tried to maintain
the diversity and element of suprise that makes the original
anthology so shocking to new ears. I know I at very least maintained
or exceeded the quality of performances. This collection is decidedly
Blusier with more spirituals Hallellujah! The only style lacking in
comparison with the original Anthology of AFM is the Cajun music,
it's never been a personal favorite of mine, and I don't really have
any to offer. Lastly, I didn't group the songs as Harry Did, I just
tried to mix it up and keep it flowing.
