Set 2
Comments: This is a killer! The sound is far from the best, but the atmosphere is great. I guess not more than 50 people or so attended the gig, it sounds like a very small place and a very small crowd. The guy taping is probably standing pretty much in front to Bent's side of the stage. Even though the sound is rough and there is a fair amount of hiss, you can hear Geb's bassdrum and the details in Bent's playing very well. That is quite rare when it comes to audience recordings. Snah's vocals are sometimes difficult to hear.

Now, the playing: The 18th of march 98 was a wednesday, and this just proves what I've experienced before: A small crowd in the middle of the week does not necessarily mean that the band don't play good. More to the contrary. I've seen it in Drammen in 99 and in Halden both in 99 and 2000. I think the small crowds in these small cities give the band a feeling of not having to fulfill a lot of expectations every night, and they don't have to play hit parades to make everybody happy. They know that the people who are there, in the middle of the week, are real fans. The band don't have to struggle to get the attention of the crowd, unlike what they usually have to do in the bigger norwegian cities in the weekends. In addition the drunken idiots are not there in the middle of the week, meaning that the band can actually take things down and take their time building up again without having some lame ass motherfucker screaming his head off during the most quiet parts. This setting produces good music!

Highlights: Compared to other setlist from march 98, the setlist doesn't look too interesting. No K9, Ocean In Her Eye, Taifun, 577, Flick or Drug Thing. The only apparent positive aspect is the only 98-live rendition of Loaded. I soon forgot the "lame" setlist when I heard what was going on that night.

A superheavy Superstooge opens the party. Already after this Bent complains about problems with an amplifier. STG is very chaotic and noisy. The start of Young Man Blues is really messy, probably due to the amp problem, but they get into it and play a breathtaking version, very funny at times, and tight as hell. Psychonaut is really far out, and the comment from a guy near the taper's mic says it all: "It looks like he gets an orgasm up there!"

Heartattack Mac contains Back To Source again, and an impro very reminiscent of parts of K9. This was the last tour Back To Source was played inside H-mac. Black To Comm entered their live sets during the tour in may the same year (first time in Reggio Emilia 15.05.98), and BTS was moved inside that one instead.

Loaded is really nice to hear again. Still powerfull. Wonder why they only played it that night. Makes me want to put on 8 Soothing Songs For Ruth instantly. After Loaded Bent says to Pidah that "everything boils up here", sounding pretty concerned about the equipment. Anyway, they end the night with Vortex, majestic and powerful as always.

This set is up there with Utrecth Tivoli 98. Utrecht spawned the K9 on Roadwork 1, and could indeed have been a classic double live album along the lines of Deep Purple's Made In Japan if released in its entirety. Utrecht is far out, Moss is powerful, powerful, powerful.

Alex says: the power-trio counterpart to the Tivoli show, a raw & rough, straight in your face, rock performance feat. the last ever performance of ?Loaded?, quality can be considered bad but benefits to the rawness of the show, great to listen to though NOT on headphones; cut in ?YMB?? A MUST HAVE!
