VIC CHESNUTT (solo) Cat's Cradle, Carrboro, NC November 29, 1995 Source: Soundboard > Denon DTR-80P Transfer: Master DAT > Tascam DA-20 > M-Audio Audiophile USB > PC > Wavelab 5.0 (fades, normalizing) > CDWave (tracking) > Flac Front End (level 6) Taped and transferred by mrpember NOTES Ragged-but-right solo show. As was always the case when he played around Chapel Hill back then, there was a pretty big crowd near the beginning, including lots of students who didn't know his music but had heard he was somehow connected to Michael Stipe. After about 40 minutes, as was always the case, the crowd was down to 50 people (same 50 people every show) pushed up against the stage, hanging on every word. Another vivid memory of this show was Mark Linkous from Sparklehorse (who opened) sitting on the side of the stage, maybe 10 feet from Vic's wheel chair. It was then very odd to read just a few months later that Mark himself was in a wheel chair after his incident in London. Sound is excellent. Vic sings so quietly that the sound engineer had to crank up the vocal mic, which then captured more of the crowd than you usually hear on straight board tapes, which adds to the atmosphere, though it also added a bit of hiss.
