No Children Run Time: 1:39:40 I honestly don't know much of the Mountain Goats but I enjoy their stuff and this show was really fun. It was the first show of a duo tour they're doing, with John Darnielle playing acoustic guitar and keyboard and Matt Douglas on guitar, keyboard, saxaphone, and flute. There was a really loose atmosphere, with lots of chatting between songs and quite a few songs being played from audience requests. We even got to vote on which instrument Matt played on "Color in Your Cheeks," with the saxaphone in the lead until he revealed the flute on stage. I was super impressed with him being able to follow along with the songs John decided to play that they hadn't rehearsed at all. I recorded from the 2nd row from the stage, right in the middle. I think it came out pretty good, though the vocals are a bit washed out at certain points. I feel like the mic John used while at the keyboard was mixed a bit better (less reverb?), so songs where he's on keys sound better IMO. Also be prepared for for everybody singing along very loudly to "This Year" and "No Children," as expected. Izzy Heltai opened, and I recorded his set as well.
