But when I listened to it again for the first time since many years, I realized that there are also some parts that doesn't sound as bad, it's just the very loud parts that sound very distorted. I did some work on it, so that the very soft bits sound a bit louder, but without introducing too much hiss. It could probably still improve with a decent dosage of EQ-ing, but as much as I tried I couldn't find the proper settings, so in the end I gave up on it. Koko is a very big venue with a very high ceiling, and we were standing front of stage, directly in front of Mimi if I recall correctly. There were large hanging speakers at the side of the stage, but they were not aimed at us and hence my microphones did not catch any of them. All sounds that were caught by the microphones came directly from the stage. That's why the drums and Alan's guitar are very loud, and all the rest such as vocals and some other instruments are heard much softer. Which is a pity, with all the guest musicians on stage, you can often barely hear them. At that time I was still using my first pair of microphones, the Green Machines, the main reason why I bought these particular brand was because they were small and cheap, which meant that quality wise they weren't the best choice. I guess there was a typical London crowd this night, one hackler who complained as much as he could, and the rest of the audience and band telling him to shut up. At times it felt like a British Parliament Meeting. About this fixed version that is shared one day after the original version, replacing the original files: I suddenly recalled that for the recording of Ida in Manchester on the previous day, it had been necessary to invert the right channel, because it was out of phase. I think that is the proper term for it. It's twelve years ago, so I had forgotten about it. So that is done now, and it's a major improvement on the sound! The recording has become less shrill, and a better stereo capture. Also a lot of the distortion is no longer as prominent!! Please don't sell! Please don't share in lossy format! Please don't share without the original .txt file! If you want to remaster this, please let me know so that you can use the master recording! Support the band. Buy their albums, go see them live!
