The taper, Karl Ryan, set up two widely separated, fixed  AKG vocal microphones on the back balcony level (a railinged walkway that runs along both side and the back of the  hall) with the assistance of a friend. Karl can be heard calling to his friend to 'Pack it up!' during the closing  applause. Karl also shot some Super 8 film clips during the concert. A+ for this student project! The widely-space microphones provide a stereo sound field within which The Feats are blastcasting thorough a mono PA  setup. The fact that the mics are place up high at the back of the hall means that you can hear the audience having  a really good time. The phase was near-perfect and rock steady throughout and the frequency response is up to 20 kHz. Three tape lead-ins can be heard in the first source cassette, so at best it's two analog generations from the master.  The lineage was reported as MR>R>cas>cdr, master reel to a reel, then copied to cassettes (thanks), and then to wav  file format on my HDD. What a great set list, one smokin' rendition after another: Two Trains guitar duels, The Fan with its dirty and greasy  guitar lead by Paul, the hot and funky medley of Spanish Moon > Skin It Back > Fat Man in the Bathtub...  The chosen closing number, 'A Apolitical Blues' is aborted due to a failure of the vocal microphones. Instead we are  privy to an early rendition of the instrumental 'Day at the Dog Races', in which Lowell is fully engaged. Audio restoration by plaz: - corrected DC offset errors - declipped channels independently - split into 3 tape sides at the recording breaks - balanced and gain normalized each side - gain and balance adjustments to the first 50 seconds of side A - gain correction for volume change in middle of side B - removed repeated segment and re-joined the 3 sides - repaired clicks, pops and crackle - reduced broadband noise by 1.9 dB - eliminated or attenuated close claps during music - pitch-correction: +60 cents (thank Goody !-) - tracked, flac'ed and packed.
